Chemical Peel

Sometimes it helps to give natural processes a little boost. Human skin is continually exfoliating, shedding dead cells and replacing them. But it doesn’t always do so as fast as we’d like. That’s when treatments such as chemical peels can accelerate the process.

Periodic peeling of the skin helps stimulate cellular activity and can be used for addressing a variety of skin issues: from age spots to acne, enlarged pores to pre-cancerous growths. At Linda Woodson Dermatology we offer chemical peels that exfoliate either lightly, moderately, or aggressively depending on the chemical used.

BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid)

We carry Salicylic acid. Good for deep cleansing pores for breakouts, it works topically deep into the pores and is also self-neutralizing.

AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid)

We carry Glycolic acid. It works by being applied to the skin and then penetrates. It is good for brown spots, collagen/elastin, and fine lines. It comes in different strengths: 30%, 50%, and 70%.

Lactic Acid

It is good for people who have never had a peel before and for sensitive skin.

VI Peel

This is a self-neutralizing peel that provides dramatic results in targeting anti-aging, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, damaged skin, acne, and acne scarring.

Photofacial/IPL (Intense Pulse Light)

The laser seeks out brown and red spots in the skin. It is a good treatment for age and sun spots, broken capillaries, and rosacea. This treatment does not require numbing and is at least 30 minutes long.

The side effects can include redness, blotching, and some swelling. It may also feel like a sunburn (at least 12-72 hrs). It is usually to avoid the sun, heavy exercise, and topical medications (it is best to stop meds seven days before and seven days after tx).

How Many Microneedling Treatments Do You Need to See Results?

While some individuals notice improvements after just one session, typically, a series of treatments is recommended to achieve optimal results, especially for more significant issues like deep scars or pronounced wrinkles.

A consultation with an Aesthetician is recommended to assess your skin's condition and develop a tailored treatment plan that meets your unique needs and goals. On average, a course of 3 to 6 sessions, spaced several weeks apart, is often recommended for comprehensive and lasting benefits.

How Does Recovery Work After Microneedling?

Recovery after a microneedling treatment typically involves minimal downtime and focuses on getting the skin back to its natural state. Here's what you can generally expect:

24 hours post-treatment: Immediately following the procedure, the skin might appear red and feel slightly swollen or tight. During this initial phase, it's important to keep the skin clean and avoid touching it unnecessarily. Refrain from using products containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, Retinol, or Vitamin C for the first week.
2–5 days post-treatment: The redness may persist, and some itchiness may occur. At this stage, swelling typically subsides. However, it's crucial to continue avoiding direct sun exposure and protect your skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
1 week post-treatment: By this time, most of the immediate post-treatment effects, such as redness, should have significantly reduced. Your skin may still be sensitive, so gentle care with a mild moisturizer is recommended to keep the skin hydrated.
2–3 weeks post-treatment: The skin's natural healing process should be well underway, and the initial restorative effects of the microneedling treatment should become more evident. Continue to shield your skin from the sun and apply sunscreen regularly.

The recovery process is usually straightforward, allowing you to resume your normal activities shortly after the treatment. As always, follow the specific post-treatment guidelines provided by your Licensed Advanced Medical Aesthetician for the best results and a smooth recovery.
